Akat Khan Sulaiman Shah

   One of Sultan 'Ala al-Din Khalji's favorite nephews, Akat Khan was appointed by the sultan to the office of wakil-i dar after the latter seized the throne in 1296. Akat Khan is known to have played an important role in the defeat of the Mongol horde led by Qutlugh Khwaja at Kili (near Delhi) in 1298. In 1301, Akat Khan and his neo-Muslim Mongol retainers made an attempt to assassinate 'Ala al-Din Khalji, then encamped at Dilpat, a short distance from Delhi. Prompt action by paiks in atten-dance on the sultan saved his life. While trying to flee from that spot after the failed attempt, Akat Khan was overtaken by paiks and beheaded.
